This inugami has a special place in her heart. Being her guardian and friend, he has been by her side since her
childhood. Inuki has been the source of Yuzuriha's happiness and sadness.
When Yuzuriha was a child, her was often teased about having an "imaginary dog." No one else could see him so they would call her a liar. This deeply hurt her since she was telling the truth.
During the battle with Satsuki, Inuki jumped into the way to protect her. Yuzuriha injured and crushed at his death faints and Kusanagi comes to bring to to the hospital. There she has a nightmare of him going away which sadly came true. Even with his death bestowed on her, she still kept going. Yuzuriha knew Inuki would want it that way.
It seems that he was never really "gone" in a sense. Her wish to protect others when she feared Kamui getting killed, brought forth a "new" Inuki from within her. Reincarnated into a young puppy, Inuki is still always be her side just like before.
