X was made into a 24 episode anime series and is currently in stores thanks to Pioneer. I was excited when I heard
it was being animated. Though, for me, it did not live up to the hype it created.
Yes, the tv series was much better compared to the movie. And yes, the animation was beautiful and fluid. The problem was that the plot was, not butchered per say, but was partially lost on screen. They did not give focus on the main character, Kamui, enough. What miffed me was how Daisuke received a whole episode dedicated to his story. That's great and all, but he's a very minor character in the whole scheme of things.
Though the main thing that bothered me was how Yuzuriha was portrayed. She did have a gracious amount of screen time which I found surprising. That didn't change the fact how her personality was lost though. In my opinion, Yuzuriha seemed so much less dynamic than how she was in the manga. She didn't act as strong or as caring either. I mean she indirectly ditches Daisuke to be with Kusanagi. To me, she lost some of her charm.
Also though she had a good amout of screen time, they cut out all the cute scenes she had in the manga! For example, the pinky swear with Kamui, and Arashi blushing from her asking about Sorata! Those scenes made me really love her character.
